>>What today's news says is that people are not switching to Macs because the software is not there. This will not change. Apple is bending over to satisfy those that are even considering moving away from Apple just for the software reasons. Now, for those that buy Intel Macs they can still buy Apple computers and run Windows on them. Not exactly the kind of message a winning OS would entail IMHO. Of course, all those PPC Mac owners are SOL!<<

Orion -

We've all known for a long time that there are a small number of specialty apps that will run only on Windows, and aren't likely to ever be ported to OS X. We've also known that many users are loathe to make the switch to OS X because of a significant software investment in Windows (games, among other things).

We've all known that these things have been an impediment to some people, preventing them from switching. Today's news means that there is one less impediment to switching for some people. Those people may number in the millions.

That's the reason for the pop today, IMHO.

PPC Mac owners can still run Virtual PC, as many do.

You are confusing issues.

One issue is quality. Only stubborn ignorants believe that Windows with all it's viruses, bugs, crappy interface devices, trojans, registry problems among others is superior. I would guess that the vast amount of impartial users prefers OSX. That includes virtually all Linux/UNIX people and will include a lot more people as people are able to experience OSX.

The other issue is software. This problem is solved now so that people can concentrate on the other issue. As a matter of fact MORE software is now available on Macs now.

Ha ha the tables have been turned.
