Thats true for all generals--pro and con. Problem is that generals in service cant always say what they want to say. I believe that you will discover over the next few years how strong the animosity is in the military toward rummy over iraq. I know they dont like him for other reasons as well. All i want from the right is an aknowledgement that things have not gone according to plan and are pretty lousy there now if one's goal is for the country not to split apart. It doesnt matter if a school goes up in Basra or a new water plant opens in Kurdistan. What matters is what happens in the 3 or 4 disputed provinces and especially in bagdad. Friedman says its five minutes to midnight. Tick tock.
