This passage re Wilsonianism was written ca 2000. My, how things have changed: Simply being America with a dynamic economy, diverse culture and vibrant political system makes a massive impact on the rest of the world. It could not be otherwise. This leads us to the important conclusion that the success of US efforts to promote democracy may in the end depend less upon the amounts of money invested in the policy, and more on the ability of America as a nation to fulfil its promise. If it can continue to do so, then its efforts abroad are likely to be successful; if it cannot, then democracy promotion as a grand strategy will be unable to live up to the claims made for it by its supporters, namely, that it makes the world a safer and more peaceful place. 74

Be aware. I am a centrist-progressive (a Kerry democrat) and want the parties to work together honestly and without corruption for the betterment of the American people, our fiscal future, our environment, and this crazy world in general.

For the past five years this has not been happening, especially since one radical group in one party has hijacked our goverbment and let all the foxes into the hen house.

If you want to call that "liberal" or "radical", fine, but the majority of the American people agree with me these days. And if the GOP hadn't becoming so damned corrupt and dishonest I wouldn't be attacking them.

Our problem now is to root out and vanquish all the Delay, Rove, Abramoff and Cheney types. Plus the nation needs to turn off Hannity and Limbaugh and start paying attention to reality again. Then and only then will be start making sense as a country again.

Like Kerry, some of my best friends are Repubs and both of us even married one.
