"Would you buy a PC that was "limited" in function if all else was equal?"
Exactly! This is one specification where Apple machines will ALWAYS beat the competition. ALWAYS It's kind of like always having the faster MHZ or the bigger hard drive. No one else can legally offer dual boot!

John,

I really think this was a master stroke... a turning point. Not sure that Apple will make a huge amount of money, but it will make the industry more interesting.

It seems to me the first beneficiary here is Microsoft selling Windows and Windows apps to Mac users.

Well put, John. You summed it up nicely. And, they will make money... Lots of it.

*Apple will offer Apple solutions and MS solutions.
*MS will only offer MS solutions.

I think the interesting question is whether PC manufacturers like Dell will be able to sell computers that can also dual boot Windows or OSX. If that comes to pass then the distinction between Apples and PCs at the hardware level goes away and there becomes a single hardware PC standard. Apple as a computer hardware company may have trouble competing in that environment but Apple as an OS company may prosper. Hard to say.
