I'm with you, E.C. Let's not shy away from facts. When well-intentioned, intelligent and informed people communicate, understanding is enhanced if spades are called spades. In the social/political sphere the situation unfortunately is very different. It appears that many people cannot abide the truth. Hence the constant desire to change the names of unpleasant things, in the hope that they'll be rendered more pleasant. Hence lying politicians - ones that tell the truth can't get elected. Hence the popularity of religion.
