The democratic world set the stage for his rise. Pol Pot didn't go away. Pol Pot was not trying to run a country, he was destroying one. Same is true for many a tyrant over the last 50 years in Africa. They should be dealt with, and the international community would be much more willing to if the US did not have a history of promoting self-interest in the process.Stalin didn't go away (he had to die in office)... You still have not pointed out which major Communist country was overthrown by our military. A nuclear shield was all we ever needed during the Cold War. Its our commerce that won. What is happening in China today could have been encouraged several decades earlier across the entire Communist Block, if western government didn't have their heads firmly in the wrong place. It could be done today on Cuba, if it weren't for the Cuban vote in Florida. Hawk, what do you think would happen if the US completely normalized relations with Cuba, made it a free trade zone (one sided if needed) and allow and even encouraged travel there. How the hell could that possible hurt us? It's our good ideas that count in this world, not our military. It's not that we're "giving them a cause". These people have their own cause, revolving around their religious beliefs, not merely US "interference". The communist rhetoric about world domination was just as bad, they were far stronger, and what happened to them? You don't get it.That's assuming we actually cut and run from the region. I'm not for just cutting and running. I want to see a more viable map for the Palestinians than the ones I keep seeing for the West Bank. America is about fairness, but we have not shown that in our dealings in the ME. Thats why we have problems there.
