This was inevitable and it would happen in any country in Europe had a group of people who were illegally in the country protested, demanded better treatment and carried flags from their home country rather than than the country in which they are residing illegally. In fact its happened in Germany without protest marches by Turks. Wrong... DEAD wrong! Racial/ethnic dynamics play out differently in Europe than it does in the US. Did you notice, for instance, that, following last fall's riots when ghetto youths ran amuck rampaging, looting, arsoning and --in one case at least-- killing, there were no, absolutely NO white-on-nonwhite violence? I mean, just compare that to what happened in Australia in December 2005: Cut le merde Gustave........you are the one who is dead wrong:"In November, 1992, a grandmother and two young girls were killed in a firebomb attack in Moelln, near Hamburg. Television news reports carried pictures of frightened and defenceless immigrants being besieged by what commentators regularly referred to as “skinheads” - even although the pictures on the screen told a different story. Some of the youths involved in the attacks were indeed skinheads, but the majority had longer hair and weren’t dressed in anything remotely close to skinhead fashion." skinheadnation.co.uk "On the 26 November Mohamed Achrak, a 27 year old teacher from Moroccan origin was shot in Borgerhout, one of the poorest areas of Antwerp. It is almost certain that this is a case of racist murder. A spontaneous protest action of immigrant youth met with severe police-repression and ended up in riots with over 200 being arrested. The press, while focussing on the riots, has absolutely no attention for the huge social problems on the origin of these recent events."socialistworld.net "May 12, 1994 - A mob of about 150 youths rampaged against foreigners in Magdeburg, an eastern German city. They beat five Africans on a downtown street and then chased them into a Turkish-owned cafe where four of the assailants were stabbled by cafe employees. Forty-nine rioters - described by police as drunken hooligans and Skinheads - were arrested and release in a few hours. Officials said they were not sure they had enough evidence to bring charges. Four days later charges were finally brought against a 19-year-old, identified as a ringleader of the riot and head of a local neo-nazi group of about 80 members. Commenting on this event, Germany's then-President Richard von Weizsaecker said: "It is hard to understand how, as we see from television pictures, hoodlums or right-wing extremists can charge through the streets, breaking windows and attacking people, and then 50 or more are arrested, but that same night they're all released." Eventually, a number of additional suspects were prosecuted; nine were sentenced to prison or juvenile terms ranging from 14 months to three and a half years." nizkor.org "Germany | 09.03.2006 German Music Concert Cancelled Under Pressure from Right Großansicht des Bildes mit der Bildunterschrift: Right-wing radicals are taking the fight to local municipality level The eastern German town of Halberstadt buckled under pressure from the extreme right and called off a concert by Konstantin Wecker. Politicians have expressed dismay over the influence of neo-Nazis in the former East. A concert planned for March 8 in the former eastern German border town of Halberstadt was cancelled at the last minute after the right-wing National Democratic Party (NPD) applied pressure to local authorities. The extremist party had claimed the event scheduled for performance in a school and held under the motto "Nazis get out of our town" was in fact an unacceptable form of political campaigning for left-wing parties ahead of state elections on March 26." dw-world.de "And just as both ultra-rightists and opportunistic politicians like California Gov. Pete Wilson scapegoat Latino and other immigrants in the U.S., so do the French rightists blame African and Arab immigrants for every problem in French capitalist society. The immigrants had attracted support from the French left. Hundreds had gathered around the church in an attempt to stop the police raid. Following the arrests, thousands rallied at the Place de la Republique in an evening protest demonstration." workers.org "ROTTERDAM -- To a visitor, the village of Nijkerk looks like a model of Dutch calm and order, its neat streets filled with cyclists and lined with tiny townhouses. But to Bert van Ramshorst and his family, the town no longer feels like home. Its citizens now come in a variety of hues and hold a wide range of beliefs, some of them deeply at odds with the pacifism and expansive liberalism that has long characterized Dutch society. "I've lived here, in this town, almost all of my life, and it just doesn't feel like Holland any more," the 42-year-old electrical contractor said, as he took a break from packing to sit with his wife and three young children in their narrow, cozy living room. "It doesn't feel like the place where I want to raise my family." So the van Ramshorst family, troubled by the changes brought about by immigration, have decided to become immigrants themselves." With their move to Vancouver this summer, they are joining an unprecedented number of people from the Netherlands who have decided, in recent months, to make a new home in what they see as the more comforting and less divisive Canada. wilmott.com
