but i'm wondering if you have anything allocated at all to any traditional sort of investments of any kind that we could track, to see your track record ?

I posted to chen right here just a few messages back where I was investing - you must not have been paying attention.

I have 5K posts spanning back to 1997 and that is just on this account (hehe)- I am sure you can find many where I bought and sold certain investments - knock yourself out. SI has a great search feature I hear. Recently a few other people warned the good general to stop shorting GOOG at 180 - he rode it on up - what can I say - his information is way better than mine. His grandpa was temporary acting emporer of china in the 20's - he probably has the best contacts of anyone on SI that I can tell - why did he lose? Because no one has a crystal ball - not even an emporers grandson with all the best contacts eh?

you've mentioned oranges, too cold to grow 'em where i am, even if i wanted to...

You could always move eh? I remember one successful strategy in ancient rome to escape the tax man was to move FAR away from Rome - in fact many of the wealthier people did this from what I read. All my rich ex pat friends in the bahamas thought it was a good idea. But just like chen and his crystal ball - escaping the tax man was not so easy they later found out. You don't have to be rich to move though - my dirt poor scottish ancestors and mexican ones moved too. Even Elroy says his ancestors moved around a lot. Chen's ancestors moved too - left tobago to go make trouble in china. hehe

maybe the argument is what happens at the end of the ninth inning ?

Yah - that is true - do we all go back to a 16th century barter economy passing shiny metal and pieces of 8 back and forth? Or in the creative destruction that is coming and always comes do we go forward to smart cards and digital money and leave that relic in the dustbin of antiquity? I don't think coconut is going to be buying her jeans with a gold coin in the future - maybe I will be wrong. Perhaps to add value to society and make the world a better place all I really do need to do is walk over to the coin shop and buy thier gold hordes - seems others here are certain that is all that is required to be valued in the future - horde shiny metal.

the general, as you refer to him, hasn't hurt himself any owning gold up to now, has he ?

Has he? If he bought in 2001 at the low I guess not - but now it is high - and you buy low sell high right? I remember reading about one guy on the real estate thread I think - a couple years back whose granny bought gold coins in the early 80's and lost - rode it all the way to its low under 300 and bailed. Bought high, sold low - oops.

Vosilla has real estate - beat out gold the past 5 years no?

and you say:
<<<I hear them say post after post things are going to get so bad baby boomers aren't even going to be able to afford vacations or retirements - they will have to work until they are 100 and will stop buying lipitor so they can buy golden pandas!

if things get that bad, they may not be focussing on waddling down to the coin shop,

That is a point I brought up to Elroy and he glided over - if things get so bad in the USA the only way I am gonna live is to bribe some fema or national guard guy with shiny metal - where do I flee too - can you answer the question he dodged?

Chen assures me things will get that bad - if gold is at 6K or 200K an ounce things probably will be that bad - I ask him and he never answers so I will ask you - if things get that bad - how are you gonna stop the 20 sniper rifles focused on your head from gubbment snipers saying GET ON YOUR KNEES? You think to buy them off with shiny metal pieces hidden in holes in your back yard? NO WAY JOSE! You are part of the titanic - and if it goes down - you sink with it - but all these silly goldbugs - they think that if they walk over to the coin shop - they dont go down with the titanic - I remember reading about the titanic - first class did have a nice band that played for them while they drowned to death.

nevertheless, may i inquire of you : do you or do you not think things will get "so bad" ?

If I thought things were gonna get that bad - I would be living in the woods right now with les from survivorman - not sitting here laughing it up with you - one my bum friends fled to the woods for a few years thinking things would get that bad - he got tired of roaches and crickets - he went to hawaii.

Grace is fun - but this is more interesting:
