You are right, his defense, religion and environmental policies have not evolved into liberal programs. So he is not a 'classic' liberal. I guess he's some sort of new age liberal. And no, I cannot recall seeing a liberal ever cut anything, even if it was deemed a 'republican' program.

"Bush just spends on everything." In 2001 with the economy in shambles post 9/11, they made a conscous effort not to get into pissing contests over what would be spent. The prime directive was low interest rates and large tax cuts. Now its 5 years later and the economy is humming and there is need to control reckless spending. I just wanted to make the point that in 01-02 what he did was brilliant economics even though some would say he was damn lucky or even unawares of what he was effectively doing. And i do believe that back in 2002, we were on the cusp of defationary depression.
