To: longnshort who wrote (735706 ) 4/6/2006 3:22:05 PM From: CYBERKEN Respond to of 769670 The emerging "Y's": Demographers generally separate generations by about 18-19 years. The "boomers" were born from 1946 to 1964. "Generation X" from 1965 to 1984. The generation following "X" (which we could call "Y" for lack of a better term) runs from 1985 to 2004. When a demographic group is younger, they tend to have a smaller % voting. This expands as they get older-and pay more taxes (it's THAT simple.) The first of the "Y's" voted in 2004 and, not so coincidentally, the first conservative (or president, for that matter) to get a MAJORITY of the vote was Bush in 2004. Just as political pros were obsessed with studying the "boomers" for the last 30 years, they are now becoming obsessed with analyzing "X" and "Y". These 2 groups are NOT homogonous by any stretch of the imagination. Volumes can and will be written on the differences. But some of the salient features of "Y" are already apparent and of keen interest to anyone following current politics. 1) MEDIA: "Boomers", and at least SOME of "X", grew up with the MSM anti-American media monopoly. This information filter influences thinking across a large number of people. The "boomers and X" are NOT old fashioned liberals, and certainly not the bitter anti-Americans and slovenly welfare queens who dominate the left today. But "Y" has GROWN UP with Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, etc., and their view of the old propaganda elite is one of total contempt. (They can't quite TELL you what Mutual Assured Destruction was, but they DID watch the WTC towers go down.) 2) EDUCATION: "Y" was put through a totally failed education bureaucracy and came out barely literate, much less aware of the world around them (such explains Howard Stern, as it explained Oprah for the "X'ers".) The brighter and more ambitious ones, however, can compensate through expanded "community colleges", and thus wind up going through the same universities the rest of us did. BUT they rightly VIEW these institutions as zoos of people who failed or whimped out of the private-sector, and now nest in Academia, bitter in their hatred of a successful America and the West in general. As we used to do when we found a course taught by a FOOL, they tow the line in the classroom where the grades are issued, and laugh behind the moron's BACK in the student union, where they can express an HONEST opinion. But there are a LOT more morons to laugh at today. 3) SOCIAL SECURITY AND OTHER "ENTITLEMENTS": BOTH "X" and "Y" are mathematically excluded from ever earning even the most miniscule profit from Social Security. The younger the worker, in fact, the more he gets ROBBED by this unconstitutional and immoral fraud. "Y" is fast replacing the feeble "depression kids" in the electorate with voters who are MAD AS HELL at the heist. Add to that that the "BOOMERS" KNOW better on SS, and are just whistling through the graveyard hoping the pyramid doesn't fall over on them soon. As "X" and "Y" come to outnumber the "boomers"-as they soon will-they WILL elect a Congress which is assigned the goal of getting rid if the robbery and compensating the victims, at LEAST through privatization. Look for MORE analysis on generation "Y" as more elections shock and amaze the anti-American left, beginning with 2006 and 2008...
