Don -

You CAN actively jump back and forth between environments with VPC on a Mac. You can even cut and paste between the two operating systems.

Virtual PC is slow, to be sure, but its perfectly fine for some purposes. Naturally, virtualization and running on Intel chips will make it much faster.
