So true. In addition, I don't even think they believe they're being dogmatic. The trouble is they know no other way. You might get someone who can't fix a problem because they take a brute force approach, instead of breaking it down into logical steps.

I remember in my early mechanic days having a car that just up and quit. I followed the steps: is there gas in the carb? Does it crank? Is there spark coming out of the coil? Yes, yes, yes. Then, is there spark at the plug? To my surprise, no. Took off the dcap and cranked, and lo and behold, the rotor was not turning. Oops. Timing belt had stripped (had one of those darn rubber ones). Heck, I was so green I didn't know that could even HAPPEN. I probably would still be scratching my head and gazing at spark plugs if I didn't take the logical approach.

Lots of people today, on both sides, are still staring at spark plugs, wondering why the car won't go...
