The cheapest way and involving the least downside risk to your equity is to sell.

This is a new way to play:

money.cnn.com
"On Tuesday, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Tradition Financial Services, together with Fiserv Case Shiller Weiss and Standard & Poor's, announced the launch of S&P CME Housing Futures and Options. ..."

I consider gold and selected gold stocks a very good long term investment with high short term volatility. If I were looking for reasonable safety and a solid prospects of appreciation in a gold stock today, I would look into KGI.TO. Other more speculative but "relatively safe" stocks I'd recommend are GUY.TO and secondarily FAN.TO.

Dipy - the usa has seized gold in the past, has the legal right to do so again with current laws on the books. Mogambo guru says he has lots of guns for when they come for his - but in reality he will hand it over or die - what will you do if 20 men in military gear with sniper rifles trained on your head say "get on your knees?"

Think about it like this - you are on the titanic - what can you do in first class to save your ass? You better get a competent captain at the wheel - but with stuff like this - I don't think there is much hope:

onlinejournal.org

I knew the police officers involved in that - all that shit about failed flash cards - total bullshit.

slashdot.org

The elections were rigged Dipy and we can't even go back and verify - this in the information age - go read neuromancer.

Even yoda couldn't see who the sith lord was until it was too late.

Why take living so seriously - you will never make it out alive.

askaninja.com

Watch this guy and have a laugh - he even says ninjanomics are more confusing than greenspan skiing backwards down blackholes made of laffer curves! Whoa!

why not buy a no load mutual balanced fund or etf's... funds like vanguard that historically low rates.. or put your portfolio together.

i have always carried a high mortgage and kept the money working in the stock market. over the years it has generated a decent return over mortgage cost or home equity loans and gave me additional itemized deductions.

However, i do not know anyone who believes in using your equity in the home to invest in market vs paying off mortgage.

I feel comfortable with amounts i have outstanding and keep the ability to pay off these amounts at any time.

most folks i know either cannot sleep with mortgage and being retired or close to it or through behavior have been taught to not have a mortgage in later years.

I believe the extra income helps me sleep better at night.
