Coming in late to the discussion you are missing the essentials. The reason my (many) news links referred to the relationship as alliances of allies was because the writers were educated people capable of appreciating that the characterization was factual and pragmatic. We are not talking about friendship or shared humanitarian values. We are talking about how self interest was expressed between two countries against a mutual threat and to protect a mutual vision in the Middle East.

You can dismiss all the dictionaries, all the books, all the articles, and all the common awareness of this alliance against Iran, if you wish. Your denial will not change the facts.

And by the way...integrity has nothing to do with it. The Russians and the Soviets and the U.S. ALL had alliances at one time or another--and sometimes concommitant. Don't equate "alliance" with friendship or integrity. That is NOT WHAT IS BEING DISCUSSED HERE...

BTW...your intimation that the U.S. was a partial ally of Iran is not incorrect. Once again...DON'T EQUATE MUTUAL INTERESTS WITH FRIENDSHIP--ok?? Many enemies form alliances where there are mutual advantages. For a start you might look at the Spartans and the Athenians against Persia. History is rife with hundreds of alliances between enemies or communities with certain antagonistic values willing to work together for common cause..

It is not necessary that you understand any of this...
