Holy COW - thats over DOUBLE what Elroy Jetsons housekeeper needs and she is an international traveler! I am certain your friend can live on A LOT LESS Not really. Here's the breakdown.... $2,000 per month in taxes plus a 2 zone heated / cooled house (10,000 square feet including the basement) which is $1,000 per month, $700 to mow the lawn and care for the 1 acre lake (not kidding). $400 in electric. $2,000 + 1,000 + 700 +400 = $4,100 per month. Maybe I was off a little, but that was his estimate on our last conversation. $4100 x 12 = $49,000 After tax in the highest tax bracket. Realistically, this guy is outside of the general population and the family business gave him most of the money to build the place. If the family business goes under, he would probably have to look at selling it and sucking up living in a somewhat normal house as the carrying costs are too large to consider if you don't have a business going for yourself.
