>> During the period in which AMD implemented APM, they went from being a generation behind intel in flash density (AMD was at 128 when Intel was shipping 256mb NOR) to about a 1/2 generation ahead.

Well, then next week should be very informative regarding the effectiveness of APM for generating profit.

Both Intel and Spansion should get same ASP for similar chips. And since Spansion is 6 months ahead of Intel in high end, then Spansion should have better relative results than Intel's flash op. I suppose Intel will still report on NOR flash.

That is one way to measure the benefits of APM. The next opportunity will be to see whether fab 7 produces 60% margin for the combination of AMD and Chartered. That result should start appearing in the Q2 report. And the big test is obviously the ramp rate of fab 36.

If APM lives up to its fame, Intel will be synonymous with corporate sudden death syndrome.
