Shares of Patient Safety Technologies Inc., a developer and manufacturer of patient safety products and services, climbed on Friday on news that the company signed a distribution agreement for its subsidiary's safety-sponge system.
biz.yahoo.com

The Santa Monica, Calif.-based company said it entered into a three-year distribution contract with Professional Hospital Supply in Temecula, Calif., a provider of medical and surgical supplies, to distribute subsidiary SurgiCount Medical's safety-sponge system, which won Food and Drug Administration approval in March.

Financial details were not disclosed.

The safety-sponge system is a computer-assisted program for counting sponges to help stop gossypiboma, or surgical sponges accidentally left inside a human body after surgery.
