Perhaps it was inappropriate, but its a stretch to say it was blasphemous. Some religious sects believe that God's will is behind everything. I don't share that belief but for people with that religious idea saying something like that is anything but blasphemous. Well I suppose it might be blasphemous to some other religions/religious sects. With the diversity of religious viewpoints one mans blasphemy is another's solid doctrine.
