This reminds me of the trick of walking over hot coals. The conductivity of heat between fluffy coals and feet is very low (just as you can touch a cake in an oven when the pan itself would burn your hand)--repeating an analogy from Shermer.

I have walked over hot coals and I am not even a Moose.
