Lacking further information, they concentrated on stuff they DID have further information on.

500-1000 tonnes of unaccounted for Chemical Weapons isn't worth mentioning?

The reason they don't mention it is because the obvious question to Bush is: What are you doing about it?

The answer being:

It's hard work and we worked hard. The survey team looked hard and didn't find it. They also looked hard for the ~two dozen Scud missiles that Tony talked about. Didn't find them either. We thought we would cover our bases by pointing out there were trucks that went into Syria. But we don't want to bring that up either 'cause someone might ask what are you doing about that.

The whole point in ever talking about 500-1000 tonnes of Chemical weapons was to scare the bejeebees out of the American people. Worked didn't it?

Besides, it's been shown that you can sneak through nuclear material through border check points at the Canadian/US border or the Mexican/US border. If you can do that through the check points imagine what you can bring through the rest of the border[s].

Congress authorized large increases in border control agents years ago, but I didn't bother myself with actually hiring any significant number. That got so embarassing I had Chertoff put in some big numbers for training agents that makes Harvard tuition look like a local Community college. Then that damn Congressional committee had to ask Chertoff to explain that. Of course he couldn't.

In summary, we're not doing anything about the unaccounted for chemical weapons, we're not doing anything about the allegation related to Syria, we're not doing anything about our port security; we're not doing anything about checking airline freight; our borders are wide open.

If anyone asks the only spin we have left is .... No one ever promised that we would fix everything overnight. Thank God, the Republican base still buys into that.
