It shouldn't matter who the "nice people" are- in someone else's opinion. What should matter ("should" imo, of course) is whether the posts contain insulting material or not. It's much simpler not to judge your fellow posters on themselves- when you don't know them- and merely judge them on their posts- the mode, and the content. I happen to feel the mode of a declaration is very important.

So we will disagree if you think it is important that we judge the people with whom we speak. I think that is a dangerous business. I'm willing to come down on whether I personally think a post is rude, but I'm not going to speculate about the poster. I have no way of knowing what they are really like, nor do I (in most cases) wish to know.

One of my SI weaknesses is that I tend to respond in kind to what I receive. As much as I try to stay above the ad hominem level, at times it doesn't work.
