Under a 1982 law, it is a felony to disclose the identity of a covert intelligence agent. There is a dispute over whether Plame was technically a "covert" agent, and Fitzgerald has not alleged Libby broke the law.

Is there any law not under dispute by this administration, especially when they have violated the law? It was the CIA that asked Fitzgerald to investigate. Do you think that the CIA knows or doesn't know who is covert? Do you think that the CIA just wants to send the justice department out for a jog?

Libby said he regarded Plame's CIA employment as "a peripheral issue" for officials who responded to Wilson's critique, the prosecution filings also said.

Right from the horse's mouth. Plame's CIA employment was considered by officials in a response to Wilson's story. There you have it...the game is over, we can all go home now. Libby just stepped in it.
