Pharmaceuticals Bausch & Lomb Stops Shipping ReNu By TSC Staff 4/10/2006 5:24 PM EDT URL: thestreet.com The Food and Drug Administration said Bausch & Lomb (BOL:NYSE) has agreed to stop shipping its ReNu MoistureLoc brand of contact lens solution after an increased number of reports of a fungal infection in contact lens wearers. In a statement on its Web site, the FDA said the Centers for Disease Control has received reports of 109 cases of suspected fungal keratitis, a rare infection that may cause vision loss. The CDC has preliminary information that 26 of the patients remembered which products they used, and all of those 26 reported using the ReNu solution. Five reported using other products in addition to ReNu. Shares of Bausch & Lomb tumbled $5.32, or 9.3%, to $52.12 in after-hours trading. The company had already suspended sales of ReNu solutions in Singapore and Hong Kong in February after multiple reports of fungal keratitis infections.
