Some of the recent changes in government seemed designed to limit his powers.

The power in Iran rests with whoever controls the Revolutionary Guards, and there I think Ahmadinejad is fairly secure.

Your comment will force me to look at Ahmadinejad a bit more closely because Rasfanjani and Khamenei are thugs but not totally unhinged.

Perhaps not, but they're true birds of a feather.

Today's Steyn column is a real eye opener for the historical and geopolitical analysis behind Iran's path towards nukes.

He convinces even without mentioning the bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut.

It will be extremely costly, but I am now convinced that jaw-jaw will not work. I hope Bush is not deterred by uninformed public opinion. He should have left Saddam alone, concentrated on Iran.

It has to be done, and Israel cannot do it by itself.
