Long term we need to invest a lot more money and effort to help Mexico to make it more attractive to their citizens to stay down there " It is not well known, but Mexico is one of the world's wealthiest nations in terms of resources........which leads to a joke that a Mexican told me.....at one time, it was a popular joke in Mexico: When God was making the earth, he decided to give Mexico beautiful beaches, a warm climate, tall mountains, a wealth of natural resources......oil, silver, gold, timber, natural gas, lead, zinc and copper. As he got to the end, he realized he had given Mexico many resources, more than many other places in the world. How could he even things out so that Mexico did not have such a huge advantage. "I know", he said, "I will give Mexico Mexicans". The point is Mexico should not be in the mess it is. Its because of its corruption primarily that it continues to have so many problems and can't provide enough jobs for its citizenry. I understand what you are proposing and mostly agree with it, but before we invest, we have to be sure that Mexico has cleaned up its act. If we stop the illegal immigration, the investment money would be part of the carrot to get them to do it. This is true. Grace (on Real Estate thread) said exactly the same thing - you don't see illegal border crossing from Canada to the same enormous degree you see it with our other border, so the obvious conclusion is to help build up Mexico's businesses as well as beef up border patrol. Last nite, sixty miles north of where I live, they arrested 60 Pakistanis illegally trying to get into the US from Canada. That's not the first time this year there have been mass arrests. Our borders are way too porous.
