We're finally seeing mid-90s technology making it to the
market place ..

Remember Clinton's challenge to the automotive industry
to develope the 80 mpg car ?? By 1997 they had all done
so producing diesel-hybrid prototypes .. Google the
"Solectria Sunrise" .. This was a 'normal' looking
EV sedan that achieved +300 miles per charge in 1997 ..

I have a Honda Civic Hybrid (2005) ... It's fabulous ... 38 mpg in suburban driving and 44 on the highway. One tank of gas from Chicago to Pittsburgh ... 480 miles ... incredible.
