"It was an enormous mistake for us to try to occupy that country after June of 2003," Gingrich said during a question-and-answer session at the school. "We have to pull back, and we have to recognize it."

So now your being forced to resort to quoting those "nasty" Republican "Fascists" in order to support your point?

Sounds like you're getting desperate!!!

I understand Gringich's point.. He believes we can't effectively deter Iran while US forces are deployed in Iraq.

But guess what.. they are RIGHT NEXT to Iran ALREADY.. Heavy Armored forces and mechanized Infantry.. Where would Newt care to deploy these forces in preparation for an overthrow of Ahmadinejad.. Afghanistan??

The question is whether Iraq's government would grant us permission to use Iraq as a base to overthrow Ahmadinejad and that's obviously a bit up in the air.

But of course, the Sunnis would probably applaud the effort, while Shi'ite Iraqis might condemn (at least Muqtada Al Sadr's Mahdi Army would). And I'm not sure if Al-Sistani would approve.

However, if Iraq's government can be persuaded to display its condemnation of Iran's meddling in its affairs, that might send a signal to Ahmadinejad that he can't be so confident that his strategy of influence in Iraq is being successful.

Shades of Joseph Goebbels Sly!!! You guys are REALLY getting desperate aren't you!!

Here you post an article that claims that Gingrich is telling us to get out now, when IN REALITY, his views are pretty close to the ones I hold.. Train the Iraqi army, let them fight to maintain their own internal order, and keep a small stabilizing presence (with Iraqi concurrence) to deter Iran and Syria.

Now who's a friggin' liar? Once again, you've shown yourself to be a pratictioner of the dark art of liberal "surrender monkey" propaganda...

From Gingrich's website:

newt.org

Gingrich's position on Iraq has been consistent and clear:
1. The decision by Paul Bremer to go from a liberation model to an occupation model in June 2003 was a major mistake (Gingrich first said this publicly in December 2003).

2. The United States needs to train the Iraqis as rapidly as possible and "pull back" from the cities to bases and air fields and serve as reinforcers as opposed to occupiers (this position is outlined in today's WSJ as the official policy).

3. The United States is likely to need to keep some forces in Iraq for a very long time (Gingrich has been saying this as far back in 2003).
