"Only 90 years ago, the agents of King Leopold II of Belgium massacred 10 million Africans in the Congo. "

Since when was Belgium part of the American South? You are all over the map on this one. You have blacks being wholesale slaughtered by rednecks in the South. When challenged, you drag up the fact that many were killed in the slave trade, mostly by Africans, and counted slaves that made it to South America, the Caribbean and North America as dead. While not too far off the mark, they still were alive. Now you drag King Leopold into it.

Has Africa gotten the short and very stinky end of the stick over the centuries? Yes it has. For its own internal reasons, it has been very exploitable. And to no ones great surprise, they were exploited.

Unless you have lived in this country for more than 10 years, I don't think you can understand the complexity of race and how its expressed in America. Its as complex as the number of Americans who occupy this country.

CJ grew up in TX where he was one of three minorities. I group up in a liberal area that was mostly white. John grew up in Chicago which is a hodgepodge of races. We three probably have very different takes on race. Whites fear blacks even though most blacks commit crimes against their own community. It takes a lot to overcome that fear.....I know from personal experience. CJ said there are churches that are integrated, black and white. I would have agreed with the article you posted that said churches are segregated. I fear Latino gang members because I lived in a barrio for several years. I doubt that CJ or JF do. I would say that illegal immigration is a net negative for this country......because I lived in such a community. JF and CJ probably might disagree to some extent. And we are just three people.

My point is that to capture a national view on race in America is nearly impossible.....if for no other reason than geographically we are as big as Europe. There are a lot of people and a lot of miles in between people. So to tell us that we are like this or like that will only invoke scorn for no other reason that we have our own experiences with race and what it means to us...........experiences that have formed our own personalized view on race.

Having said that, I do know one thing.........learning to get along among the races seems to be one of the hardest tasks for humans to master. And I can't help but believe that's because we are hard wired not to get along.
