Having experienced several mega hazardous days in Beijing, I can tell you that it didn't look any worse than the Shanghai "photo" day. In fact, Friday, April 8th, was hazy once again, but had perfect spring weather, high 60s and kind of fooled us. We had no warning, and got out and walked around the old hutong district, and all through the parks for about four hours. But crisp walks in hazardous pollution sure didn't help I'm sure. We heard no public warnings, the hotel didn't say anything, and it didn't seem like activity was curtailed much either. I wonder about China's public warning system? Withholding health information seems to fit with their whole pirate ship pattern?

Not quite right. The U.S. has done more than most to lower pollution and cut energy use.

It has wisely refused to sign treaties that would have left the worlds most serious polluters off the hook.

Too bad the pollution issue is seen mainly as something governments control.

Most seem to think a government can come up with an alternative energy solution. I believe private industry will do so when gasoline cost are high enough to create a market for their product.

Worry when the government gets involved by proposing a solution such as hydrogen. How in the world does a government know that that is the way to go?
