>>In point of fact, waiting on inspections clearly amounts to trusting Saddam's restraint. We know that he continued to line up procurement of banned stuff despite inspections, and therefore know that inspections, no fly zones, and embargoes were in fact failing to keep him honest. Certainly Bush and I disagree with you, and had real concern you don't share. Concern which was proven worthy, as touched upon here.<<

Dan -

Nonsense. Keeping up the pressure and having Inspectors running all over his country is not "trusting Saddamn's restraint". Do you send teams of inspectors in to check out someone you trust? In point of fact, NO amount of weaponizable chemical or biological materials were found in Iraq after our invasion. NO nuclear weapons program was in place.

Saddam wasn't even able to mount a credible defense of his own capitol. That's how big a threat to America's security he was. The reason the Bush administration concluded otherwise is that relied on any piece of hearsay or innuendo they could find, from any source they could find, however unreliable, in their zeal to prove their case. They wanted to take Saddam out from the very beginning. That was obvious from all of their public statements from the moment they started the drumbeat of propaganda in the middle of the summer of 2002.

But I'm getting sick of debating this. You see it one way, I and a large majority of Americans see it another way. There's really no point in hashing out the minutiae at this point.
