Damn shame they will ultimately dominate the world

i don't think they will dominate the world the way the US has dominated until now. quite simply, there is not enough energy production even now at the peak for China to achieve anything like first world levels of per capita consumption--they will be lucky to achieve a level on par with Mexico. and of course, since oil is now peaking, China will face a situation where demand is rising even as supply (production) is falling--this is the situation the whole world will face.

we in the developed world will go from having 300 person-equivalents of BTUs working for us 24/7/365 to maybe 150. in China they will go from maybe 10 peBTUs to 7 (a relative gain vs. the US, but still an absolute loss). the entire world will be poorer, so i think we will have bigger problems than a new tyrant in the form of China.

of course, the US with its crazy leaders is unlikely to cede hegemony to China without a fight, so we can probably bank on quite a few nukes going off before the century is out.

all in all, we in the US have been extremely fortunate to be born in the richest country on the planet during the peak wealth period of the planet. do not worry if your neighbor drives a Toyota while you drive a crappy American car. you are richer than more than 99% of humans who have ever lived, and who ever will live.

enjoy it while it lasts, cuz it ain't going to last forever.

perhaps the question might be redirected...are Chinese youth tuning into rap music and imitating any of the behaviour ? perhaps music is pirated but maybe the question is : is the attitude that goes with that music pirated ? here you've got signs throughout the transit system warning about consequences for ill treatment of transit employees/authorities...how did it come to this that this is even necessary ? i'd presume the youth there have too much homework and longer school hours and family responsibilityto get too involved in the "message" from the rappers, but you were there, therefore the question...
