Sorry to burst your bubble, but cash is just an opinion as well. For example, one could have just gotten a bank loan of $1 billion and have $900 million in cash in that bank. But no one would argue the fact that the "cash" can be taken away by the bank, if the loan conventions are broken. If that loan is due next month, you have to make up $100 million.

If you don't have it, the bank will sell your collateral to make up the difference and you know they won't get much for those assets beyond their needed $100 million. So they sold the $3 billion fab for $105 million. They don't care, they got their money out of it.

Free and clear cash is a different story. If you have been following them, Intel doesn't have much of that either.
