That's the basics of the political situation and every politition worth his salt knows it.

It may end another way. The young may simply refuse to pay en masse. A large exodus to the underground economy where the gov't can't tax them because it can't find them.

But this situation WILL end. One way of another. Adding prescription drug coverage to Medicare simpl hastens the death of the present system. I expect, after a period of turmoil, we will end up with a national health system and the elderly will have to take what care the gov't gives them or do without.

To me, it means many of the elderly did not save enough and spent too much (how very American!) and now want someone else to pay.
When you're young, it's much more attractive to be a grasshopper than an ant. Spend, spend, spend, and never worry what happen 30 years down the line.

You ar soooo right. I actually expect the revolt to take a different form than a big push to vote. It will probably take a major recession and high unemployment to force action. Eventually we could see rioting, striking or other forms of civil disobedience when people realize how badly they are being screwed.

Current elderly were victims of wealth transfer from their parents. The real problem is that current demands are so outrageous.
