The thing that people find difficult to manage is forward/back slipperiness, which is the hard part of learning skiing, ice skating, roller skating and slipping on the proverbial banana skin [or leaves on a track or wet pavement].

Segway single wheel would take care of that problem. The sideways balancing is easy = just like riding a bicycle.

Getting on and off would be easy too. There would need to be a couple of supports for most people to get on, then fire it up, release the supports and take off.

For more co-ordinated people, just jump on with both feet at the same time and take off. Like jumping onto a skim board at a beach. Easy. Not for everyone, but lots of things take a small amount of brainpower and most people don't have much.

Steer by leaning, just like running around a corner.

I find the handlebars on the Segway are just something to get in the way. Only the wheels and platform are necessary [of course].
