and what about Israel? they might be concerned that a nearby country which believes Israel should be "wiped off the map" is going to be able to do that soon...

The United States has not "shot its wad", Iran has not achieved a huge victory (rather, they are flirting with disaster), and Europe has absolutely no capability to take on any kind of military operation anywhere.

The overwhelming idea on threads such as one is that since Bush's poll numbers are down and support for the war in Iraq has slipped, there's absolutely nothing that could happen that could change either of those fundamentals and the American public, presumably groaning under the future weight of massive mortgage defaults and repossessions, will now be as limp and listless in response to any possible Iranian aggression as, say, Ecuador or Denmark.

That idea is an illusion.
