Crimson > while it's fair to call AIPAC obnoxious and even anti-democratic, the same can often be said about, say, the NRA, Big Pharma and other powerful lobbies. The authors note this but often seem to forget it. This has the effect of making the Jews who read the paper feel unfairly singled out, and inspires much emotionally driven mishigas in reaction.

Mr Alterman misses the whole point which is that AIPAC is not a lobby which promotes American special interests in America, like the others mentioned, but is, in fact, the representative of a foreign nation (America Israel Public Affairs Committee). Furthermore, American Jews may be either Jews or Zionists, or both, and therefore are entitled to their double allegiance but certainly not AIPAC which is a pure pro-Israel organization but which, anomalously, is not treated as a foreign lobby.
