I tend to agree that religious instruction gets in the way of a good understanding of the true state of affairs. More specifically, I think that getting people to believe impossible things (like the virgin birth, the resurrection, the holy trinity etc.) has a bad effect on their ability to reason. But according to my wife the standard of education that she received from the nuns was high, and they didn't shy away from evolution, for example. On the other hand, I do find myself getting into a lot of arguments with her ...
