re: Fresh off of its court victory over satellite operator EchoStar Communications Corp. (DISH.O: Quote, Profile, Research), TiVo Inc.(TIVO.O: Quote, Profile, Research), the digital video recording maker, could be a takeover candidate, according to the latest edition of Barron's.

But TiVo faces a tough road ahead, chiefly seeing its share of the DVR business being overtaken by Cisco System Inc.'s (CSCO.O: Quote, Profile, Research) Scientific-Atlanta and Motorola Inc. (MOT.N: Quote, Profile, Research), the two largest cable set-top makers, Barron's said.

The analysts don't seem to get it. Assuming the IP court decision holds up (and that now seems more likely than not), TIVO has the competition by the balls. You think there are a lot of folks sweating at the competing manufacturers? Will TIVO spend the bucks to take them to court, you bet they will. Will these companies decide to go to court or to pay royalties... what do you think?

Long term, I'm not sure the DVR is the ultimate solution. But short term, TIVO seems to be in the catbird seat.
