I'm all for competition, but it doesn't have to be heartless.

By definition, it is.

I'm a consumer with a buck to spend. Vendor X is offering stuff to have my buck. Vendor Y is also offerring stuff to get the same buck.

if the conservative demand is there she will remain open. However, it appears that demand is disappearing as the town changes over.

those little stores still do a big business. i still remember small chains like the 711 stores doing very well in local areas. Prices are sky high but you do get convenience for milk, cig, bread, sandwiches, other small items. You are not going to drive a few miles to get one or two items.

So these stores meet a need. perhaps for some who do not have cars, or one car and significant other takes it to work. or main store not open 24 hours and local 711 is open 24 hours.

as far as films. i see down loads in the near future not netflix mailings. Netflix already looking into downloads and people may stay with them because of huge library of films. Of course i now have optics and look forward to tv on optics and on demand from web or tel company. I did netflix years ago , got tired of their restrictions , delays in shipments and went with a small local company in maine. then stopped mail order completely, burnt out on dvd's. Now i only use on demand cable(free movies)
