AP: TEL AVIV, Israel - A Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up near a fast-food restaurant in a bustling commercial area of Tel Aviv during the Passover holiday Monday, killing six people and wounding at least 35.
It was the first suicide bombing in Israel since the Hamas militant group took over the Palestinian government 2 1/2 weeks ago.
The Islamic Jihad militant group claimed responsibility in a telephone call to The Associated Press. The attack came a day after the group had pledged to carry out more attacks...

Many injured in Tel Aviv blast
A suspected Palestinian suicide bomber has injured at least 30 people in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, local police and paramedics report.
The bomb went off near a bus station in the city's Neve Shaanan neighbourhood.
Video footage from the scene showed at least one badly injured person being hurried away by an ambulance crew.

Five Dead and 30 Wounded in Tel Aviv Suicide Bombing
An Arab suicide bomber, blew himself up at a Tel Aviv fast food stand in the Neveh Sha’anan neighborhood Monday afternoon, killing at least five civilians.
At least 30 persons were wounded, with 15 sustaining moderate to severe injuries. The wounded are being evacuated to local hospitals.
Of those seriously wounded, five are reported to be in mortal danger.
An eye-witness at the scene, Rafi Hayun, told Israel radio that the terrorist was a female. He estimated that five persons, aside from the terrorist, were killed in the attack. That figure has since been confirmed by official sources. The identity of the terrorist has not been confirmed.
Police are already investigating how the terrorist reached his target and whether he received assistance by other terrorists still in the vicinity.
The Islamic Jihad terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The fast food felafel stand in the vicinity of Tel Aviv's former central bus station, was the site of a terrorist attack three months ago. Thrity-two people were injured in that attack which was also carried out by the Islamic Jihad.
Following the attack, Police Commissioner Moshe Karadi, put the nation on maximum alert, out of concern that the inauguration of the 17th Knesset, scheduled for 4:00 this afternoon will serve as a pretext for more attacks.
As of Monday afternoon, Israel's security apparatus was faced with the threat of 19 specific terrorist attacks, warning of an impending attack at a specific time and place. Eighty more general threats of attack have been reported to Israel's intelligence agencies.

Terror disrupts Passover celebrations once again: A large explosion rattled the old central bus station in southern Tel Aviv, in the Neveh Sha'anan neighborhood. According to Magen David Adom emergency services, seven people were killed in the blast and at least 30 people were wounded, 10 of them sustaining serious wounds.
The explosion occurred at around 1:30 p.m. at a shawarma stand, where a previous bombing took place. This time, however, the blast was much stronger and deadly
Large police forces and Magen David Adom rescue teams were dispatched to the area. According to initial estimations, a suicide bomber who was sent by one of the terror organizations carried out the attack.
According to a tape released by the Islamic Jihad in Jenin, the attack was carried out by Sami Salim Khamad, who came from the West Bank. Fatah's al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades also claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to an eyewitness, the terrorist entered the store, and when the security guard asked him to open his bag he detonated himself.
A short while after the explosion, police forces began chasing a blue commercial Mitsubishi vehicle seen fleeing the area of the attack.
Yael Garti, who witnessed the explosion, told Ynet: "I saw people running in every direction. The shock was felt in neighboring buildings. Ambulances arrived within minutes. Many people gathered in the area."
The owner of a nearby store said that he is already used to the sounds of terror attacks, but that this time the explosion was extremely strong.
"When we left the store, we noticed a lot of injured people on the floor. We rushed back to the store and shut it down," he said.

Brigadier-General Dannu Chen, deputy commander of the Tel Aviv District, told reporters: "This is a strategic, sensitive and problematic place in Tel Aviv."
The previous terror attack at the area took place on January, when an Islamic Jihad suicide comber detonated himself next to the same shawarma stand, wounding 32 people. Following the attack, the stand owners placed security guard in the area.
Palestinian sources said that dozens of IDF vehicles entered Nablus immediately after reports of the terror attack in Tel Aviv took place. The IDF is carrying out searches in the area.
Throughout the Passover holiday, security forces received severe security warnings. Very large amounts of forces were dispatched across the country, in central junctions and in entertainment venues. However, there was no concrete warning on an attack in southern Tel Aviv.
Immediately after the attack, security forces raised their alert level across the country.
