I-Pods spread to adults this last Xmas. The reason I know is because I got one. A "video" I-Pod, which I thought was silly. Who's going to watch a show on that tiny screen, I asked?

Number one son downloaded his music library into my Pod and a couple of episodes of a TV series for me. Happy to have the music, a way of keeping up, but the video? Naw. Never watch it.

But then I flew across country, packed into one of those horrible cattle cars they call planes today, and guess what?

Now when I'm doing my daily walk, I have the thing plugged into my ears, and I walk a lot. More than half the adults I pass seem to similarly equipped.

I think I got a glimpse of the future.
