Arnoud de Borchgrave has an interesting take on Iran's recent pronouncements. Essentially they're pissing on our shoes to see what we do, and to scare our allies in the Middle East as to what fate awaits them when we draw down our forces in Iraq.

Given China's and India's burgeoning need for oil and gas from the Middle East, they've got a stake in keeping peace, too.

Re: "The only way we invade is if Iran does set off a nuke."

Somehow if they nuked us I have my doubts that we would invade. I expect we would be hearing more about eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth.

If by "setting off a nuke" you meant a successful test, then invading would be nuts since they would be able to use a nuke against us and we would have to restrain ourselves.

The only way we invade is if Iran does set off a nuke. Short of that, we can raid. But if the raid fails, it increases the chances that they will nuke

We don't have a choice, IMO. I think they see the endgame and will wage war against us whether we choose the fight or run. They see the prize in sight - Iran dominant over the entire ME. If we don't fight, they will still fight us.

The thing is, they don't have to nuke. They can set the ME on fire with suicide bombers and their proxies. They have no dount learned the Palestinian lesson, like Nadine has so eloquently elaborated. Wage relentless low-energy asymetric war against the West, through proxies, without pushing the envelope beyond the tipping point. Europe would be cowed. Our left will have us running for cover. What could we do in that storm? There are limits even to US power, and the mullahs know it and are counting on it.
