Good old Tom. Cuts right to the chase.

Al Qaeda is. But those Iranian Imans are as fundamentalist as you can get. This "Twelfth Iman" business is a Shiite conception.

The radical Salafi movement is exclusively Sunni. Why conflate them?

But it's crap. It ignores reality. Debka is now reporting that Hizbullah, working from its new Gaza bases, contributed its expertise to today's Tel Aviv bombing. Hizbullah is also working hand in hand with the Palestinans in Lebanon.

Hizbullah is Shia. Hamas is a radical Salafi movement. But funny thing, they seem to be working together just fine.

Barnett's responses about the nature of the Iranian regime are even lamer. Someone tries to tell him that the Iranians are different because they really believe, and he says that "this was even more true of the USSR"! The USSR was driven by religious fanaticism, he says! Say what?
