Medical malpractice is more common than we know. When I hear about people like that eye doctor it is very upsetting.

I know a little bit about Detached Retinas as I had 2 of them and a Macula Pucker. I was operated on at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary at 14th Street and Second Ave. Early Detection is the key. Once the Retina detaches itself from the Macula, you have 5 days to get it reattached (to the choroid tissue) or you will lose central vision. Here are the symptoms: heavy duty worms and floaters in your eye. But heavy duty worms and floaters do NOT mean you will have a detached retina, at least 98% of the time. What it does sometimes signify is that the vitreous (white part of the eye) is liquifying itself. That is a normal aging process. In my case, my vitreous tore my retina while it was liquifying itself, causing it to detach from my macula. It is a painless process. But the black curtain that formed over my left eye was very real. I did a quick search on the Internet and realized immediately it was a detached retina.

Many people like myself get detached retinas through natural causes without getting into a accident or taking a blow to the head.

Once you get a detached retina, you have very little time to search for a good Retina Specialist. This is why I have posted the best eye hospitals in the United States for Detached Retina Surgery. Once the retina detaches itself from the Macula, you have 5 days to restore central vision in your eye. My surgery took place on day 3 so it was a success. I had a vitrectomy. I got back to 20/30 vision. But then scar tissue formed and 6 months later I had another retinal detachment. Fortunately, the macula did not become detached this time. This time my retina specialist inserted a Scleral buckle to make sure my retina would hold. But massive scar tissue formed on my macula, making me blind in that eye, so I had to have a macula pucker to get it cleaned off.

Today, my vision is 20/30 in that eye with glasses.

What procedure did this Doctor perform on your eye? Was he a retina specialist? Typically, Vitectomy and sometimes Scleral Buckle surgery is performed for Detached Retina.
