They gouge at the high end. I wonder what is preventing AMD from making Opterons with giant caches. This is where Intel really reems customers.

One thing I've never been able to grasp is the gap between Intel's and AMD's ASPs. Where does the Intel advantage come from?

The main reason is that AMD is more or less excluded from business lines, where mainstream level processors go (Pentiums, not Celerons) on both desktops and notebooks.

AMD is predominantly in retail and lower end, where lower end processors go.

Two major reasons:

1. Sales to business customers as Joe pointed out.
2. Markting tools like rebates, co-marketing, and threshold volume discounts (as outlined in the lawsuit) are not reflected in ASP's.
