If one can be socialist and advocate for laissez faire policy, then one can be a capitalist and advocate for state ownership of certain enterprises. I think what many fail to appreciate is that the implicit action in socialism is the maximization of a social welfare function, whereas in capitalism an individual utility function is being maximized. A society following either maximization scheme can end up with a similar “capitalist structure” but only one is capitalist.
