Would you agree that illegal immigrants put a downward pressure on wages? That affects all blue-collar workers, especially those belonging to unions. Why hired unionized construction workers, for instance, when you can just hire illegal immigrants?

On that note, it's kind of inaccurate to say that illegal immigrants (or guest workers for that matter) will take jobs no Americans want. The truth is that Americans want those jobs, just not at the relatively low wages offered.

That's why I mentioned "union protectionism," because the effect on wages is significant. And the effect is across the entire spectrum of blue-collar jobs.


Not everything lines up perfectly but most of the jobs that illegals do are not union jobs. Besides, unions and union membership have been in decline for years now due mostly to ineffective management. Why they are so high on your hate list is beyond me.
