The screenplay is by the recently deceased Cuban novelist Cabrera Infante who was an early on a supporter of Fidel and then decamped for Paris as the regime became more totalitarian.

Dammit all to hell. What crappy news about Cabrera Infante.

Guillermo Cabrera Infante is/was one of my favorite writers. He wrote an absolutely brilliant novel, Three Trapped Tigers, which has fortunately been as brilliantly translated as it was brilliantly written. As a dancer, you'd love the depiction of pre-revolutionary Havana night life, though the nonlinearity of the plot might be offputting.

And, great news, this site indicates that the film you have mentioned is based on Three Trapped Tigers.

I don't know how the film is going to capture the word play and the stylish writing, kinda like putting Lolita on the big screen, a very tough thing to do. Nonetheless, I am really pleased to see that Cabrera Infante is finally getting the recognition he deserves.
