Right-o. Opportunities lost from fear.

IMO the 70s were the last optimistic decade in the US. When the first oil shocks hit us and we no longer had endless oil to power ourselves we became fearful. We were then hit with the Japanese 'terror' when we bashed their cars because they were better than ours.

Now we're fearful because of the Euro, the Chinese, the outsourcing, the lack of competitiveness of our children, etc. Then we get hit by 911 and all hell (AKA FEAR) breaks loose and we completely lose our collective minds.

IMO the US of A today is all about fear. We fear each other, we fear furriners, we fear the boogie man, we fear everything so we cling to fundamentalism, to endless war, to law and order and the other tinpot armour of the fearful and stupid.

We've been becoming cowards for an entire generation. We will need something fantastic to become courageous Americans again.
