I agree with you. I'm on that home page for just a sec to click on subject marks or mail. After that, I don't return to it until the next session.

Besides, I'm impervious to such ads<g>

Doubt it's to "keep the lights on". But, no matter, it's gone now. I barely noticed it, to tell the truth. My screen seems to be so cluttered with crap I didn't ask for I suppose I just mentally dismissed it as more garbage.
